SHTF Sunday Summary

Week #9 (week ending July 21st) of the Sunday SHTF Survival Summary.  With the obvious sad situation in Colorado this week, we have a bit of focus on defense.

1. With the tragedy in Colorado, I think we all thought to ourselves on what would have happened if something else was armed in that theater.  While I personally don’t think that would have made a difference given the gunman’s intentions, less folks may have died.  Mac at has a great take on what may have happened if just one moviegoer had a firearm.

2. We all know that serious gun control debate is coming.  The folks at Off Grid Survival dive right in and ask the question, “Is the problem in our society and the culture of violence being glorified in movies”?

3. With tensions being heightened in general, it is vital for preppers to understand their surroundings thoroughly.  At the Survival Blog they offered a great overview of how you should develop intelligence on your area for when the SHTF.

4. We have to say a slot or two for the economy since things don’t seem to be getting better. The Economic Collapse Blog always does a good job with outlining great lists of why things are headed south.  This week was 20 signs that all point to you know what.  #10 and #11 covers pension shortfalls which is one of the biggest tsunamis I think we have heading for us.

5. Mish at Mish’s Global Economic Trend highlights the importance of the recent tech sector layoffs and it’s impact on our economy.  HP cutting nearly 8% of their workforce along with cuts at Sony and Nokia really foreshadow what is coming in terms of unemployment numbers.  Meanwhile, we keep hearing that things are getting better.
